FAQ

1. What soldering methods can be used for Tact Switches?

Common methods include reflow soldering for SMD models, wave soldering for through-hole models, and hand soldering for prototypes or repairs. Always follow the selected product’s datasheet.

2. What is a Tact Switch?

A Tact Switch is a momentary electronic switch that provides tactile feedback when pressed. The circuit closes when the switch is pressed and opens again when it is released.

3. What is a dual-action Tact Switch?

A dual-action Tact Switch has two operating stages. The first press activates one signal, while a deeper press activates a second signal.

4. What is the difference between top-push and side-push Tact Switches?

A top-push Tact Switch is pressed vertically from above the PCB. A side-push Tact Switch is operated horizontally from the side and is suitable for edge-mounted controls.

5. How many circuits and contacts does a Tact Switch have?

Most standard Tact Switches are SPST-NO switches with one circuit and one contact. A four-terminal model normally has two internally connected terminal pairs.

6. What are insulation resistance, contact resistance, and dielectric strength?

Insulation resistance measures resistance between electrically isolated parts and should be high. Contact resistance measures resistance through closed contacts and should be low. Dielectric strength is the test voltage the switch can withstand without electrical breakdown.

7. What does IP67 mean?

IP67 means the switch is completely protected against dust and can withstand temporary immersion in water under specified test conditions. It does not mean that the switch is suitable for continuous underwater use.

8. What is the operating life of a Gangyuan Tact Switch?

The operating life depends on the product series, operating force, and application conditions. Gangyuan Tact Switches commonly offer between 100,000 and 1,000,000 operating cycles.

9. What types of Tact Switches does Gangyuan offer?

Gangyuan offers through-hole, SMD, top-push, side-push, waterproof, illuminated, ultra-thin, high-temperature-resistant, and automotive Tact Switches.

10. How long can a Tact Switch be stored?

There is no single storage period for every Tact Switch series. Keep switches sealed in their original packaging and store them in a dry environment away from high temperatures, high humidity, and corrosive gases.

11. What soldering temperature can a Tact Switch withstand?

Many Gangyuan SMD Tact Switches support a reflow soldering peak temperature of up to 260°C. The permitted temperature and heating time vary by series, so the product datasheet should be checked before soldering.

12. What are the hand-soldering conditions for a Tact Switch?

Typical Gangyuan hand-soldering conditions are a soldering iron temperature of no more than 350°C and a continuous soldering time of no more than three seconds. Avoid applying pressure to the actuator during soldering.

13. Are there safety standards for Tact Switches?

Applicable requirements depend on the switch model, target market, and final equipment. Check the product datasheet and compliance documents before selecting a Tact Switch for a safety-related application.

14. Can a Tact Switch be held down continuously?

A Tact Switch remains electrically active while it is pressed. However, prolonged pressure may affect its performance or service life, so a latching switch is usually better for continuous ON operation.

15. Are Gangyuan Tact Switches RoHS-compliant and lead-free?

Yes. Gangyuan offers RoHS-compliant and lead-free Tact Switches. Product-specific compliance documents can be provided for the selected part number.
